Photo: Damage by aphids.

The glasshouse aphid and the potato aphid are commonly found in tomatoes, egg plants (aubergines) and chrysanthemums, where they can cause serious damage. Secreting honey dew, they cause sticky fruits.

CROP PROTECTING AGENTS

APHELINUS abdominalis parasitic wasp
Duration of development; egg-adult, at 20șC ± 18 days.
The glasshouse aphid and the potato aphid are controlled by this parasitic wasp, which lays its egg in the aphids. The larva will spin a cocoon in the aphid, turning this into a black 'mummy'. Adults also feed on the aphids
